about

Released initially on CD in 2008 in a limited-edition of 500 copies, this Americana-tinged EP finds mysterious Savannah, Ga. proto-punk / power-pop septet Superhorse flexing their muddy boots and dusty roots.

With stylistic nods to the 1970s country-funk of Jerry Reed ("(Ballad of The) Quarryman"), the barroom swagger of vintage Southern Rock ("Boys And Girls"), the chicken-fried blooze of Jimmy Reed and Dylan's Highway 61 Revisited LP ("Walkin'") and the mournful acoustic laments of Townes Van Zandt and John Prine ("I Don't Care"), the band barrels through four original tunes in just under 15 minutes' time.

Throw in a faithful cover of the classic Mel Tillis and Buck Peddy-penned 1957 hit single for Webb Pierce, "Honky-Tonk Song," and you have a wonderfully upbeat EP of tears, beers and jeers.

Roots-rock guitarist extraordinaire (and Honorary Superhorse member) John Neff (Drive-By Truckers, Booker T., Bettye Lavette, Starroom Boys, k.d. lang, Redneck GReece Delux) adds incredibly tasteful pedal steel licks to a few of the songs, and William Tonks (Barbara Cue) and Joe Nelson (Truck Drivin' Son-Of-A-Gun) guest as well on dobro and mandolin and fiddle, respectively.

100% of proceeds from this Artist-Approved reissue will go toward repairing and restoring the damaged multi-tracks of the band's unfinished third album, in hopes of completing it for long-delayed release.

They occasionally perform live.
